For Your Health - Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral cancer attacks about 31,000 people per year, and 9,000 people die from cancer of the mouth, lips, or tongue.

As part of our routine dental exams, we've always performed visual oral cancer checks, but now, thanks to the VELScope, we have an even better diagnostic tool at our disposal.

The VELscope, which is a handheld device, is able to detect tissue abnormalities before they reach the surface, when the cancer is in its earliest stages, is easier to treat, and has a 90% survival rate.

If we come across a suspicious lesion, we'll refer you to a specialist for further testing. Since we've started using the VELscope, we've detected oral cancer in some of our patients…and potentially saved lives.

For new patients, we include this oral cancer test as part of our initial exam, at no extra charge (regular value $75).

For all of our patients, we strongly recommend a VELScope exam at least once a year.
